ATEC’S HPW3000 HELICOPTER ENGINE IS NOW THE T900
The U.S. Army recently designated the ATEC HPW3000 helicopter engine the T900-HPW-900 engine. The assignment of a customer naming designation is typical as an engine development program matures.
As the ATEC offering for the Army’s Improved Turbine Engine (ITE) program, the T900 employs a state-of-the-art dual spool design that incorporates two rotating turbine-compressor assemblies instead of just one. As a result, the T900 will deliver better dependability, greater fuel efficiency, more power and lower cost over the life of the engine compared to single-spool designs.
The Army intends to downselect to a single design after a Preliminary Design Review (PDR).
